I've found that a lot of people misunderstand what age of consent means. One English guy I talked to knew the AoC in the UK was 16, but he thought that meant 16 year olds could have sex with each other. He was HORRIFIED when I told him they are free to choose anybody of any age.

There is no age of consent in Afghanistan.

The variable for them is marriage.

In Idaho and Yemen a 10 year old can get married, with parental consent.

Their ideology is Daddy must control her sexuality until Daddy gives her away to her future husband, who has been vetted and shown to be a good Christian/Muslim.

This is wild. According to these two if you don't let your teenage daughter run around half-naked that's VERY BAD because it means you are "sexualizing" her :-D 

We see teens employed at the exact same jobs as other adults, doing the exact same work for the exact same pay, and paying the exact same taxes, driving the same cars on the same roads. 16 year olds have beards, and breasts, they are 100% completely adult in every way.

When I was 17 my boyfriend was 23. It was totally fine. The idea that some total stranger on the internet thinks that my ex should go to prison for making love with me is just fucking insane.

I think it's very detrimental to have an age of consent full of exceptions, or conditional on the size of the age gap or whatever. It sends a very confusing message to young people and to their parents.
